Day Trading Tax Calculator (India)

Intraday and F&O profits are taxed as business income at your slab. Enter your trading profits and other income to estimate the tax under the new regime.

How India taxes trading profits

This estimator uses the new-regime slabs (0% to ₹4L rising to 30% above ₹24L), applies the §87A rebate for totals up to ₹12L, and adds 4% cess. The "tax attributable to trading" figure is the difference between your tax with and without trading income — the honest marginal cost.

Estimate only — surcharge above ₹50L, presumptive schemes, expense deductions (yes, traders can deduct expenses) and audit requirements under §44AB are out of scope. Confirm with a CA before filing.

Stop calculating trade-by-trade. TradeDiary imports your trades from Zerodha, Groww, Upstox, Dhan & more, and tracks these numbers across your whole history.

Frequently asked questions

Can I deduct expenses from trading income?

Yes — because intraday and F&O profits are business income, related expenses (brokerage, charges, internet, data subscriptions, advisory, depreciation on a trading computer) are deductible before tax. This is a real advantage over capital-gains treatment that many traders never claim.

Do I need a tax audit for trading?

Under §44AB an audit can apply depending on turnover and whether you declare profits below presumptive thresholds. F&O turnover is computed from absolute profit/loss sums — a journal that computes §44AB turnover automatically (as TradeDiary's tax module does) removes the guesswork.

What about advance tax?

Business income means advance tax applies: roughly 15%/45%/75%/100% of the year's expected tax by 15 June/Sep/Dec/March. Missing instalments costs interest under §234B/C — set aside tax as profits accrue, not at filing time.
