Where the money goes on every Indian trade

Even with zero-brokerage delivery, a round-trip trade pays several statutory charges. The big ones, at current NSE rates for a discount broker:

This calculator uses the same rate card as TradeDiary's in-app charge engine, so what you estimate here matches what the journal computes across your imported trades. Full-service brokers charge more — edit expectations accordingly.

Stop calculating trade-by-trade. TradeDiary imports your trades from Zerodha, Groww, Upstox, Dhan & more, and tracks these numbers across your whole history.

Frequently asked questions

Why is options STT charged only on the sell side?

Since 1 April 2026, STT on options is 0.15% of premium when you sell (whether to open or close). If an in-the-money option you bought is exercised instead, STT is 0.15% of its intrinsic value. Buying an option pays no STT.

Do these rates apply to every broker?

The statutory charges (STT, stamp, exchange, SEBI, GST) are identical everywhere. Brokerage varies: discount brokers charge ₹0–20 per order as modelled here; traditional brokers may charge 0.1–0.5% of turnover, which multiplies total costs several-fold.

How much do charges matter for intraday traders?

At roughly 0.03–0.05% of round-trip turnover, charges look tiny per trade — but an intraday trader doing 2 round trips a day on ₹5 lakh turnover pays roughly ₹1.2–1.5 lakh a year. Tracking net-of-charges P&L is the only honest scoreboard.
