Verified P&L: a trading record built from your broker's own data

By Pulkit Mangal · Updated 6 Oct 2026

A P&L screenshot is easy to crop, edit or cherry-pick. A Verified P&L is a public page whose numbers come only from the raw data the broker's API sent. That data is stored so it can't be edited afterwards, and every record carries a fingerprint anyone can check.

Private pilot. Verified P&L currently works with Kotak Neo F&O accounts (NFO, BFO and MCX) and can't yet be switched on from your own TradeDiary account. Want it for your broker? Tell us.

How it works

  1. Capture. Through the broker's official API, TradeDiary saves the broker's trade book, position book and prices four times each trading day (09:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30 IST) and again after the close. Each capture is stored exactly as received, with a SHA-256 hash.
  2. Lock. The store of captures is append-only. The database itself refuses any edit or deletion, so nobody can change it through TradeDiary: not the trader, and not us.
  3. Compute. Booked P&L is calculated from the broker's own fills using the average-cost method. Running P&L on open positions uses the broker's last traded price. An option left to expire worthless (final price 0.10 or less) is settled at zero on its expiry day. Charges are estimated and labelled “est.” Nothing typed in by hand is ever used.
  4. Reconcile. Every day, the fills must add up to the broker's position book, and positions must carry over from one day to the next. Missing days and mismatches are listed on the record, not hidden.
  5. Publish. The trader publishes a link. It becomes permanent once someone opens it, or 10 minutes after publishing: it can't be taken down, and its period, segment and accounts can't be changed.
  6. Check. Each record carries a fingerprint (TD-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) that changes if any of the underlying data changes. Anyone can paste a screenshot's fingerprint on the check page to see whether it matches.

What a record shows

How to check a screenshot

  1. Find the link code (the part after /v/) and the fingerprint on the screenshot.
  2. Open the Verified P&L check page and enter both.
  3. Matches means the figures are exactly what the broker data produced at the capture time shown. No match means the screenshot does not correspond to any capture of that record.

What it does not prove

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the trader edit or delete the numbers?

No. The broker data behind a record is append-only in the database, and a published link is permanent once it has been opened or is 10 minutes old. The trader can edit the wording of their post, not the record.

Which brokers does Verified P&L support?

During the private pilot, Kotak Neo F&O accounts only (NFO, BFO and MCX). Other brokers will follow once the pilot is complete. If you want it for your broker, contact us.

Does a record show the account holder's name or client code?

No name is shown. A single-account record shows a masked client code. A combined record, which adds up several accounts, shows only how many accounts it includes.

Is Verified P&L a broker statement or a SEBI-approved performance record?

No. The broker has not reviewed or endorsed it, and it is not a contract note or a SEBI-certified track record. TradeDiary calculates it from data the broker's API returned. It is not investment advice.

What happens on a day with no capture?

The day is shown as missing, and the record's status changes from Reconciled to Needs attention, so a gap can't pass unnoticed.
